3 Valuable Points

The US was literally head and shoulders above a shorter Guatemala team last night at Legion Field in Birmingham, AL, taking their WCQ match, 2-0, on goals from Dallas F Eddie Johnson (his 8th in 8 national team appearances) and New England M Steve Ralston. Johnson nearly had a pretty bicycle kick goal, which was saved by the Guatemalan keeper, and LA Galaxy M Landon Donovan had a goal called back on a horrible offside call. Add a missed Guatemalan handball in the box and this match could have ended 5-0. With the win, the US moves into 2nd place in the six-team Hexagonal with seven matches remaining. Other scores from last night: PAN 1-MEX 1, and TTO 0, CRC 0.
